What would you like to know about lobular breast cancer?

Lobular breast cancer, or invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC), is the second most common type of breast cancer. It starts in the lobules, which are the milk-producing glands in your breast.

Here are some key things to know about ILC:

- It accounts for about 10 percent of invasive breast cancers
- The cancer cells grow beyond the lobules and invade nearby breast tissue
- It can be harder to detect on mammograms compared to other types
- About 95 percent of ILC tumors are ER-positive (estrogen receptor positive)
- About 70 percent are PR-positive (progesterone receptor positive)
- It's rarely HER2-positive

ILC often responds well to hormone therapy like Tamoxifen if it's ER-positive or PR-positive. Your prognosis depends largely on the stage at diagnosis, with earlier stages having better outcomes.

Is there something specific about lobular breast cancer you'd like to understand better?
