Increased cholesterol is a side effect of both Anastrozole and Letrozole. I just started Letrozole a couple months ago and my most recent test came back a little bit high. I haven't researched it yet, but I know that I don't want to take any more pills and I hope I can control it by dietary changes.

Has anyone else experienced increased cholesterol levels while taking anastrozole, and are there remedies besides statins?

While the search results don't specifically address cholesterol changes with anastrozole, they do mention several common side effects of aromatase inhibitors like anastrozole. These include hot flashes, joint pain, bone density changes, and weight gain - all of which can be related to the hormonal changes these medications cause.

Weight gain is a side effect some people experience with anastrozole, and weight changes can sometimes affect cholesterol levels. If you're experiencing increased cholesterol, it's worth discussing with your healthcare team whether lifestyle modifications might help.

Some general approaches that may support healthy cholesterol levels include:

- Tracking your food intake and making small dietary changes
- Limiting alcohol consumption, which adds empty calories
- Reducing refined carbohydrates and focusing on whole foods
- Maintaining regular moderate exercise
- Working with a registered dietitian who understands cancer treatment side effects

Since everyone responds differently to medications, your oncology team may want to evaluate whether the cholesterol increase is related to anastrozole or other factors. They can help determine the best approach for your specific situation.
