“Hello everyone.

This is Barbara's son, John. I just thought I'd give an update to all those who care for her. She is alive at the time of this writing but is currently in an inpatient hospice center on morphine and does not seem to be coherent.

I will be visiting her with my brother as soon as possible. I tried to talk to her on the phone tonight and it didn't seem that she was there and she did not recognize me; she recited my name and then… read more

The community responded with overwhelming love and gratitude to the heartbreaking news that Barbara is in hospice care, with members sharing how she was often the first person to welcome them when they joined and provided tireless research, encouragement, and practical guidance throughout their cancer journeys. Many members described Barbara as a warrior, inspiration, and guiding light who selflessly supported others even while battling terminal cancer herself, with several recalling specific ways she helped them feel less alone, offered wisdom during panic, and brought common sense and compassion to the group. A recurring theme was deep appreciation for her strength and kindness, prayers for a peaceful and pain-free transition, comfort in knowing she will no longer suffer, and the promise of meeting again on the other side.

Dear John and family,

Thank you again so much for this painful update about your beloved mom. I want to acknowledge how incredibly difficult and heavy this time is right now—please know we are praying for your strength and for her comfort.

If I may share our own experience, hoping it might offer some comfort: when my mother was in round‑the‑clock palliative care, we were so thankful for all the health care providers and the “gift of time” our family and friends had with her. We were able to call a priest who blessed her with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick (Last Rites), and the peace and deep calm that followed was a profound gift to all of us especially for our mom who passed so peacefully!

I pray that you and your family, especially your mom, also find moments of spiritual comfort and peace during this precious and difficult time. May hope continue to sustain you.

With love and prayers❣️✝️🕊️
