All the resources here seem to only help you one time a year and most of them have a limit of $100. The water company gave me a medical hardship which only postponed the bill. So it just kept racking up. They have liheap here that helps with energy assistance and they helped me back in Oct but the electric company put the rest of the balance on a payment arrangement. So last month I had applied for the winter liheap assistance which I think they said was $800 for the winter but when I couldn’t make the payment arrangement the electric company sent them back the payment they helped me with in Oct and gave me a shutoff for Feb 9th. N doubled my bill. Do note I owe them $699 with this new bill included. Or I can pay $569 with another payment plan of $29 a month or I can pay $469 by the 9th and the remaining balance on the 23rd. I’m praying for a miracle. Or that my taxes come back faster than the Internet is telling me they will. I’m not very good at asking for help to be honest. But my church did help us very much so my daughter and my grandson had Christmas. And my sister is helping me. I pray for anyone that is going thru cancer treatment in Missouri with little ones all by themselves. This is a hard enough thing to battle. But I think there’s something terribly wrong with a system that makes a person feel like they have to chose between living right now or longevity. When I make it to the other side of this…I’m going to find a way to help single parents that face this!! Cancer treatment or not going homeless should never be made an option for anyone! It’s sad. Thankfully the one thing I don’t have is the medical bills tho. Thankfully I have my sister to help me at much as she can. Thankfully I am standing up today still going strong into chemo tomorrow. There are answers to this. I believe they just need to have the questions asked in the right places maybe? Praying for us all!! One day at a time!! ❤️🙏🏼

Ask to talk to the financial advisor at your hospital- and also make an appt with Social Services. The financial advisor was able to apply for co-pay assistance for my chemo drugs. That was a huge help! She also said for me to keep her advised if my needs changed- they had fundraisers so they could provid people with different gift cards (gas, groceries, transportation to appts), etc. If you have a church family, reach out to them as well. Contact the utility companies, and ask how they can work with you. Often Social Services can direct you to resources that may be able to help.

Mine helped me with $750 but that’s was all she knows about. She said there wasn’t anymore resources that she knew of. My water is shut off at the moment. I’m seriously thinking about walking away from this and going back to work. Living right now is more important than hoping I’ll live in the future. I couldn’t imagine having to face this decision with little small kids. This is killing me with 2 grown kids and a teenager. But I can’t live like this. I don’t think I’m going to have a choice. I’ve gotten all the help I can from local resources. No one should ever have to choose. But I don’t see any other way. Thank you tho. I say prayers for your healing Eileen. ❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️

Your nurse navigator should get you a social worker. I have one and she is awesome, helped me financially with paying my bills and also gas money for travels. Praying for you!
