After having the reconstruction surgery I have noticed that even though I am drinking plenty of water. My skin is peeling in places like my legs, arms, and now my right breast. I have started to itch on the left breast side where I had the surgery. I did not have dry skin before and I wonder if the liquid soap that is mile is causing my skin to be dry.

Change liquid soap! Apply jojoba oil. It’s the closest to your skin epidermis. Or sweet almond oil - very gentle.

You could be having a reaction to Chlorhexidine if they had you shower with it before surgery or used it on you in the operating room. Before my double mastectomy they had me shower the night before and day of surgery with Chlorhexidine. I told them before surgery that I was having an allergic reaction (I'm allergic to everything) and to add Chlorhexidine to my allergy list and to use iodine on my skin before surgery. They ended up using Chlorhexidine on me again before surgery even though I told them I was allergic. I broke out in full body hives. They also used it inside my mouth and all the skin peeled off of the inside of my mouth and tongue. It took about 4 weeks for the hives on my body to clear up and a couple of months for my mouth and tongue to heal. I always use Ivory antibacterial bar soap now before and after surgeries and have never had an infection. It is a bit drying, but at least it doesn't cause an allergic reaction. I use Aveeno unscented lotion everywhere except for where the surgical incisions are located.

Cynthia , I've been using Aquaphor baby healing ointment and Dove antibacterial wash and it has helped the itching at the reduction and also on the mastectomy side as well as a rash around my neck. I drink cucumber infused water with a bit of parsley to flush the toxins out.

I’ve switched to natural essential oil infused bar soap, shampoo and conditioner— no more chemicals. I make my own moisturizer using coconut oil and essential oils (lavender, tea tree and frankincense). I was told to put some shea butter with it so I’m going to order that. I also use castor oil on my scars as well as scar tape and that is helping with the itching.
