What should you know about vitamin K supplementation with your vitamin D?
Great that you're taking vitamin D! Research suggests higher vitamin D levels may improve survival outcomes for people with breast cancer. One study found that patients with sufficient vitamin D levels had significantly better survival outcomes Show Full Answer
Candy, no need to worry about seeing a doctor to understand vit K. Just make sure you take a high dose D3-K2 combo, plus magnesium. High dose means 5000 to 10000 IU of D3 with the appropriate K2 dose in it. There is no interaction with any meds. Most bc patients with any type of treatments take it. It’s very important for your immune system.
Oncologist never talk about vitamins. They do cancer drugs.
I can tell you when I first started taking anastrozole my onco had me on 600 Vit D AND after 7 months I had a vitamin D hydroxy test and it came back very low so I started taking 5000 IU of D3 WITH K2 and the next vitamin D hydroxy test came back just a little above low and she actually told me to decrease the 5000 D3 to 3000 IU which was incredibly stupid. If it took 7 months to get from low to a low normal why would I decrease it to 3000? I continued taking 5000 and did not tell her . Vitamins are my decision not hers . Don't rely on onco when it concerns vitamins. Do your own research or ask here.

Even some Drs. are not aware and do not realize that one needs vitamin D, vitamin K and magnesium to get calcium to your bones.
By all means, check with your Dr.
This is especially important for those on Aromatase inhibitors.
Yea, I contacted my oncologist about this and was told she knows nothing about vitamin K being beneficial or how it reacts with the hormone blocker I'm on. Instead of looking into it, she gave me the name and number of another oncologist that specializes in medication. Sorry but I don't have another $40 to cover a specialist copay.
