I thought follow up would be with a breast surgeon for 5 years. HOwever mine just discharged me . And told me to see my oncologist only. Is this normal?
Good morning @A MyBCTeam Member I would think taking the tumor out before it spreads to lymph node would have been much more important. The wait time to do all these extra tests and procedures is about 3 to 4 month. My belief now after going through this is as soon as they do a biopsy these cells start leaking out and spreading into the lymph node. I would never have a biopsy again. Just my opinion 💗
Women can keep changing doctors until they find one they like, as long as its in the network of your insurance company. Perhaps look in the patient handbook or look it up online.
@A MyBCTeam Member.....If your cancer is large, aggressive/fast growing, has spread to lymph nodes, has infiltrated your chest muscles, is triple negative, etc. they may feel it's important to do chemo first to shrink existing tumors and attempt to kill off cancer cells ASAP that may be spreading beyond your breast and possibly becoming stage IV before you have surgery in order to increase your overall survival odds and make it easier to remove any remaining cancer and get clear margins during/after surgery.
I saw my surgeon & medical oncologist for the first year then just the oncologist. Now I only see my PCP. I wasn't happy with the oncologist so my PCP is doing everything. I"m going into my 5 th year.
After surgery you see a oncologist. During this journey I have had four doctor's. Breast surgeon, oncologist, plastic surgeon and of course my regular MD. Sometimes it can get confusing as I too thought my breast surgeon was also my oncologist, I actually wish he had been!
