You will make it through but I will say some days are tougher than others! I finished my chemo 2/27/25 and radiation 7/25/25. I had a double mastectomy with tissue expanders 4/17/25. I have not had reconstructive surgery as I am waiting for radiated skin to heal.
My taste changed drastically with TCH. I know they told me to drink, drink, drink! I could not! It made me so sick! I had a friend that went back in for fluids 2-3 days after her treatment. She did great! I would highly recommend this. I would do if I had been told about it during my treatment. She was also 20 years younger get than me! I think I let myself get behind the eight ball! I couldn't get caught back up. Some days only chicken broth was all I could get in my belly! As crazy as it sounds, Wendy's chili tasted good to me. I could make a small serving make me 2-3 meals as I couldn't eat much. Fatigue was definitely there along with GI issues. I am making this sound worse than it is but I promise it is all manageable. You will have a complete medicinal arsenal that will cover any side effects you may have. Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns or comments. We are here to support each other.
Thank you so much! I am highly anxious. Finishing rad treatments now. My poor body!
BTW- my cocktail was TCH (Taxotere, Carboplatin, and Herceptin) Hugs!
Hi DG! Pack your chemo bag, wear something comfy (I did lounge pants and t-shirt, and put my rolled up jeans in my bag to change into after), and eat a good breakfast! I usually went with scrambled eggs, which is a good but light protein.
In my chemo bag I had my phone, charger, water bottle, snacks (usually crackers, fig bars, cheese sticks), Our center had snacks- but often it was chips, cookies, etc- the stuff I wanted to stay away from- lol! Sometimes they had raisins or granola bars- but this way I knew I had something I would want. I packed something to keep me busy, my jeans, and a blanket. The center had blankets they kept in a warmer, but I always thought they smelled funny. Besides, the blanket was a gift from a friend who has been bc cancer free for almost 30 years. So, it was warm and encouraging!
On arrival, they take your temp, BP, and weight- and then you get to settle into a comfy chair. Ours were grouped 6 chairs to a section, and one nurse to monitor 6 of us, with floaters at the desk to pitch in as needed. Th e nurses are awesome at explaining everything as they go! They will take awesome care of you!
The premeds include anti-nausea meds, and often Benedryl- so you will probably get a good nap in! There are also steroids- which made me hungry- and energetic. I would leave there, go to Cracker Barrel for an early dinner, come home do a few things- and sleep all through the night and next day- lol! For most of us, chemo turns out not to be as bad as what our imaginations were preparing us for! I will be keeping you in prayers that this is your experience as well, and will be watching for your post that everything went well- and you are home resting comfortably! Hugs!
Thank you so much! I found out I am going to have TC chemo therapy.
