I will have a diepflap as my reconstruction. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.
I am so sorry you have this in your future. I hope all goes well. I had a double mastectomy in Aug 2022. It will well and I am doing great. Everything went much better than what I had visioned in my head. I took only tylenol for pain. Sleeping - For 3 or 4 nights, I slept in a recliner. Then I moved to the bed with a wedge pillow purchased at Wal Mart. I had to sleep on my back for several weeks, so I bought small crib size pillows to proper under my shoulders/arms for comfort. I was always a stomach sleeper so I had some adjustment. I also had another pillow under my knees for comfort. I was 60 years old with general stiffness in my joints on occasion. For riding in the car, I also bought off Amazon a mastectomy pillow. It protects your chest from the seat belt. I ended up keeping it on my chest during the day watching TV and also at night when sleeping on my back. It had a pocket for my cell phone. I felt secure and protected with it on me. Several weeks ahead of the surgery, I started doing shoulder stretches and exercises to loosen up my shoulders since their movement would be minimized for weeks afterwards. I wanted to avoid any stiffness later on. Have front button shirts and pajamas on hand. You are not supposed to raise your arms above shoulder level for several weeks. You will likely leave the hospital with at least 2 drains. My hospital gave me a drain holder. You can also buy them or make them. Picture 2 big pockets on a length of cloth around your neck. Some people pin them to their clothes, but I found a holder easier to deal with. The drains were the most annoying aspect of the whole procedure. I had them for 17 days. I had my hair cut/colored just before the day of the surgery. Do not try to do housework until the doctor says it is OK. Even if you feel like doing it. I followed drs orders and all went well. Best of luck.
