@A MyBCTeam Member: I had a single mastectomy to flat at 39 and I regret nothing. I knew I needed the quickest and least painful path back to feeling like me. I knew I would not have the patience for the pain of reconstruction. I was back home on my couch eating peanut butter toast within 5 hours in minimal discomfort- and I live 40 min from the hospital. The asymmetry doesn't concern me - I always found symmetry as a standalone argument strange as boobs are literally the only body part where that's a concern- noone loses an arm and then removes the other simply for the sake of symmetry! Not that I don't understand anyone who chooses dmx - I think it's a personal decision every woman must make.
I wear a weighted prosthetic that matches my natural breast - mine goes in a pocket in the bra. There are also kinds with adhesive back that stick right to the body. Sometimes I wear my prosthetic and sometimes I don't- I have found that noone really notices (nor would I care if they did!) I've also found that pretty much anything with removable padding can potentially be mastectomy-wear - just take the pad out and shove a foob in! I've gotten some very comfy but cheap bras/tips that way.
Did you know they even make a one-sided bra? This is me wearing one by AnaOno. Very cool.
Bottom line- you need to look into your heart and decide what you feel will make you happy - this is your body and noone else's. Wishing you all the very best in whatever you decide, lovely lady!

Hi I had dcis also stage 0. I had bilateral masectomy my left breast was starting to have lumps before had the masectomy. For the reconstruction I had done came out good even though one implant is big other implant is small. I asked my plastic surgeon she told me the way it sat in me. Only way to correct it surgery again get fat from other part of the body I am like not getting cut up again

I know. 😒 But Marisa is SO amazing at curbing the hateful comments. She had her mastectomy due to being positive for the BRCA gene and has alopecia. She doesn’t shy away or hide her body, which makes certain people very angry. She’s definitely a force to be reckoned with!
