I am on Anastrazole. Due to bone loss of this medication the Oncologist has said to start oral alendronic acid or intravenous zoledronic acid. I am to see a GP to discuss this and I am not sure which is the best way forward! I have tried to get an appointment with my Oncologist but have not heard anything.
You probably should be taking a lot more D3 . My doctor initially put me on 600 mg of vitamin D and I didn't get a dexa scan in the beginning.
After taking Anastrozole from Oct 2023 to Feb 2024 she ordered a Vitamin D Hydroxy test and the result was low at 16 and then I started 5000 IU's of D3, had the test again 7 months later and it was 33 ( a low normal) . It took 7 months to go from a low to a low normal and my oncologist actually asked me to lower D3 to at least 3000 IU which I found totally insane. I get this test done again in 2 weeks and I am still taking 5000 IU's.
Wishing you all the best as you navigate all the info to make the decisions that are right for you! Hugs!
I can't tolerate statins and wasn't happy about their side effects anyway so I am now on 180mg bempedoic acid and have been fine on those and not had any side effects from it. And the levels have gone down.
These AI pills have destroyed my bones. My oncologist wanted me to start taking Prolia injections. I refused after I read one of the side affects is that your lower jaw can rot off. No thanks.
Just like my cholesterol is now sky high thanks to these AI pills so doctor wants to start a statin. I refused after to take statins. Side affects both short and long term are not worth it to me.
The thing is I haven't even had a DEXA scan and still waiting for that. I think I will wait until I get that but will still go to the GP and discuss it. I am also taking Adcal_D3 CaIcium Carbonate 1500mg and D3 (400IU) prescribed by the GP.
