Lumpectomy, Mastectomy, single, double, lumpectomy first, mastectomy now to avoid later if recurrence
Some doctors suggest lumpectomy, but some women want mastectomy, sometimes double mastectomies to 'play it safe just in case', others will get a
lumpectomy first and then get a mastectomy if recurrence happens.

With distant family history of breast cancer on both sides but not my parents or aunts/uncles, I decided on a double mastectomy. Had identical twin grandaunts, one went for a lumpectomy and the other full double mastectomy, the mastectomy Aunt lived to be 90 colon cancer took her, unlike her twin who passed a few years after her surgery and treatments. Although it was decades before my diagnosis, I suspected a genetic predisposition. I was tested after surgery and a new genetic cancer that manifests itself at times as breast cancer is the culprit, MSH3, so no need for chemo or radiation my cancer will come back, when and where is the question. I am glad I opted for the double mastectomy and we do not know all of the cancer genes yet.
And sometimes age is a factor in this decision. Its probably much easier getting reconstruction of one breast versus two. Older women might not want to go through the reconstruction process.
@A MyBCTeam Member Keeping you in prayers that this will help prevent further issues, and provide some peace of mind! I cannot imagine yearly biopsies- I would probably lose what little mind I have left! Peace of mind is priceless! Hugs!

@A MyBCTeam Member What a book/site says, what a doctor who doesn't have firsthand experience with any of this versus reading from women here who are living it is who I trust the most. 10 women will say they gained weight from the AI, tell that to a doctor and they will suggest it must be our diet, these oncologists seem to dismiss the side effects of everything . I don't discuss side effects anymore, I know the causes and don't need to be told otherwise.
