My surgeon said they could not confirm the stage until after surgery, if there were no surprises, I would be a Stage 2.
They had done a needle core biopsy, and with that they were able to determine I was HER2+, and Grade 3 aggressive. The small sample they took of the closest lymph node was clear. The only difference between the imaging and biopsy was that the tumor was slightly larger than originally thought (measured on imaging as 2.5 cm, but was 2.7).
Thanks Virginia for all the information. I failed to ask about the stage when I saw my doctor. I'll have to ask next time. I think it is stage 2. The cancer had not spread beyond my chest. (Between my right and left breast) my left breast is an implant.
