Ask your oncologist- they will have all the info regarding your Stage (how far it had progressed), Grade (how fast the cancer cells reproduced), the effectiveness of your post-chemo meds, etc.

Do not freak out if they give you a percentage and a 5 year time frame. The five years is just how long they follow patients before crunching the numbers. So if they say, for example 5 year survival rate, of 93%, it just means that of the patients that were followed for 5 years, 93% were still NED, (No Evidence of Disease). They may live to 100, but the stats are calculated on that 5 year window,

When I first got my paperwork with the recommended protocols listed, they had checked a box for Cureable, vs Treatable, but they still went over the risk of recurrences, etc.

Reach out to your team, if may bring you some peace of mind- but most of us have a certain amount of anxiety, no matter how good the stats, regarding recurrence.

This is probably the best explanation of the 5 year survival rate that I have ever heard. Thank you for sharing. As my oncologist has explained to me the goal is "to keep it quiet". That is what they mean when they say we are LIVING with metastatic breast cancer not DYING of metastatic breast cancer.
