Calcifications in the breast are small calcium deposits that can appear on mammograms. They are often benign but can sometimes indicate the presence of cancer or precancerous changes.
For Stage 0 breast cancer, the goal is to remove all cancer cells to prevent progression. Treatment options include:
- Surgery: Lumpectomy, which you had on your left breast, removes the tumor and some surrounding tissue.
- Radiation Therapy: Often used after surgery to prevent cancer progression.
- Hormone Therapy: Used if the tumor is hormone receptor-positive to decrease recurrence risk.
It's important to discuss with your doctor why the calcification in your right breast turned into cancer and the best treatment options moving forward.
