Hi Kara, I am also not surprised that they brushed off your concern. I had a seroma after surgery and now during radiation it gets very swollen and painful. I was told that it would settle down after radiation is done. I am frustrated too.

Hi Kara, I am not at all surprised your doctor didn't take your concerns seriously. They just don't want to admit these damn surgeries do this. It really makes me angry how they brush it off . I never got lymphedema but there are plenty of women here that have. ❤️

I reached my deductible and out of pocket expenses so my swell spots and compression was covered 100%. My PT wrote the prescription. Before I received it in, my PT made me a swell spot for left breast. So talk to PT and try and see if you're covered by insurance.

Hi Kara! I'm 3 yrs post op and had in-breast lymphedema. I went though PT and still had issues with my left breast, where my skin would look like an orange peel. My plastic surgeon showed me how to massage the breast and push fluid to the lymphatic system at the breast plate. I still wear my surgical bra and swell spot to bed periodically as I do not want to end up with lymphedema. Do you have swell spots? If not, look on Amazon. I was surprised to see that you can purchase there. Hope this helps!

You are each you own best advocate. We must voice our concerns until they are heard AND acted upon. Yes, it will be uncomfortable. BUT as the patient we are not supposed to have all the answers, nor are we supposed to know how to find all the answers. SO, we do rely on the medical team to do the WORK and help us. I would ask some of the following questions until I get answers and action.
Definitely, throw out what is happening, it feels like____, it looks like____, it swells when I do ____, what should be done to address this?_____, what is it?_____ Is it a Seroma?_____ Is it lymphedema?______ How are these confirmed?____ How do we figure this out for my health and comfort?_____ Who do you refer me to?______ How quickly can that happen?_____
Please do NOT wait in pain for anyone... call the office, message them via "My Chart" do what you need to do to get their attention.
