I was stage 1A (hormone negative) HER2+. I completed 6 rounds of TCHP followed by a mastectomy. Just curious what other HER2+ ladies are doing/have done for maintenance therapy.
Your insurance will most likely NOT pay for PET scan for early stage BC. I have HER 2 + stage IIB. I had lumpectomy, 6 rounds of TCHP, 20 rounds of radiation and now on H and P until October. My oncologist told me that I will get yearly 3D mammograms, breast exams and that’s it. I mentioned that my lobular cancer did not show up on a mammogram, and I asked if I could have yearly MRI, and she said insurance does not pay for that!!!
I had a bilateral mastectomy in Aug, started TCHP in Nov. Just completed 6 rounds and start Herceptin and Perjeta next week. I think they were thinking 6-8 months but it will depend on the results of my PetScan which is the day after. I am unclear about that.
More recent research has shown an increase in HER2+ recurrence as we age. So, last year (3 years after active treatment) the surgeon added an ultra sound to go with the mammogram, Insurance did cover it, she has order the same this year- due next month.

Request to have ultrasounds too.
Contact your insurance to find out if they will pay for MRI’s.
ILC is not seen well with either mammograms or ultrasounds.
But the combo of both gives more awareness to the radiologist.
MRI is more accurate.
Make sure that you tell the insurance that you have ILC and have some prepared site information for them.
Please let me know how this goes. I have ILC also.
YES, a PetScan will show if the cancer has spread.
