Well when I was told at first just Sentinel nodes I wasn't even happy about that. My surgery was postponed for a month and when I was looking on mychart I noticed it said 'Sentinel node dissection and Axillary dissection'. I about hit the roof because I told her in the beginning NO AXILLARY NODE removal so I called the office and told her to change it back to the original plan. So, this is what happened. She took 4 Sentinel nodes, 3 were good, 1 wasn't. I looked at that thinking if it wasn't in all 4 SN then it probably didn't get into the AN. So you have the option to only do SN and wait for results to decide if you want to go back for AN removal or just tell your surgeon not to take more than whatever number you choose.
