I had a lumpectomy in December 2022, finished 38 rounds of radiation in March and been on AI's since April. I recently noticed a small black spot developing on my nipple. Could this be a side effect of treatment or something I need to address? Due to change in insurance, I do not currently have a primary physician or oncologist that I can see till March.

My tattoos are on my chest and sides. The spot is just off the side of the nipple and is pretty small, so I'm keeping an eye on it. The fact that it is purpley-black has me a bit concerned, as well as the odd location.

It's common for breast cancer survivors to experience anxiety or worry about follow-up scans, a phenomenon often referred to as "scanxiety." This anxiety can stem from:

- Fear of Cancer Recurrence: Worrying that the cancer might return.
- Preparation for Scans: Concerns about the logistics of getting to the scan, such as traveling or arranging child care.
- Undergoing the Scan: Anxiety about the scan itself, such as claustrophobia during a PET scan or discomfort from an intravenous line.
- Waiting for Results: The period between the scan and receiving the results can be particularly stressful.

These feelings are common and valid among many breast cancer survivors.

Saw my new provider today and she believes the spot is not something I need to concern myself with and likely a result of the radiation treatment. 🌝
