Barbie, several of my fingernails were really damaged by chemo or Herceptin. I really babied them with a product called Healthy Hooves. It is for nail care , and I got it on Amazon. I kept my nails filed very short when they grew even a little and buffed them as well. They look pretty good now about 9 months after Herceptin ended. OPI makes a product called Nail Envy that protects quite well. I think your nails will grow back with time.

I have been taking every supplement...hair, skin and nail gummies, along with biotin, calcium, magnesium, and a bunch of others. I just hope they can grow back out. I had tips glued on to the small amount of nail that I had on them but decided to take them off to let them heal... not pretty 🥴 Thank you for your thoughts!

Oh Barbie! I’m so sorry that chemo has affected your nails so badly! While I did not lose a nail, I had issues. I took a supplement called “Hair, Skin and Nails”. I would run the question past your oncologist to make sure the supplement doesn’t interfere with anything. Maybe they can offer suggestions. Take care!! 🤗

All my fingernails turned a gross gray color, I covered them with bandaids because I hated looking at the Zombie nails, and since they were lifting up, I was afraid of catching them on something and having them come off. They did grow out, and they are all fine, now. I had the same thing happen with my toes, and ended up losing the nails on my big toes- in fact, I lost the right one, twice!! These are taking FOREVER to grow. well, They are back- but they still look awful. The left one has a healthy color at the very base, so I am hopeful that "one day" it will look normal again. The right one- I guess I will just have to keep being patient- as it still is a complete mess in regards to color, shape, and texture.

I have not experienced that reaction with the medications I take. However, my friend did experience the loss of her fingernails. And they did grow back and looked very good. During that process of the nails growing back, she would wear gloves when she felt she would be uncomfortable as her nails grew out.
