Hi, I had 25 radiation treatments 1 year ago. Mine were the same time each day for 5 weeks- I was at University of Michigan Hospital for mine. My oncologist sent my mastectomy and oncotype reports to the radiologist. After an appointment with her a plan and mapping of the area where my sentinel node had cancer cells was created. She took care of me for 5 weeks. I was great for 4 weeks and then in week 5, I developed numerous blisters on the treated breast which were extremely painful and wet! I was prescribed a silver-based cream which was a life-saver. I immediately reported to the radiology techs and they had a radiologist come in that same day to examine me. Horrible experience but very short in duration. Best wishes.

The radiation oncologist was the one who did all the planing of my radiation. A preliminary CT scan, I had a micro metastasis in the sentinel node. Radiation is scheduled for the same time Mon thru Fri. Fast in and out, takes longer to get undressed and dressed. I would advise bringing a tube of cream to apply right after radiation before you get dressed. I saw the radiation oncologist every Wed after treatment. Vital signs, weight, skin check. Once a week the techs also did X-rays. Ask questions during your initial visit, if possible bring someone with you, you get hit with so much information it’s hard to absorb it all.

Radiation was tougher for me than expected. Though that may be as I had radiation after surgery, chemo a second surgery then radiation - so my body was a bit beat up when I started radiation. Lots of people said “radiation is nothing” but my nurse suggested I wait on going back to work and I’m glad I did. Radiation is totally do-able just for me and several folks I’ve spoken to seems like the side effects are downplayed a bit. Best of luck with everything!
