I’m curious also. I haven’t had one yet. I was thinking about having a double mastectomy and no reconstructive surgery at all. I just don’t want the cancer to come back once it’s gone.

I am not a doctor, but I don’t believe cancer risk would be affected by the reconstruct you choose . This would be a great question for your oncologist and breast surgeon. I hope they can help you with your decision. 🤗

Hi I had the flap surgery and minimal problems and a fast recovery and I think it's because I didn't have to worry about being allergic to myself. It is a personal decision but I would weigh the pros and cons of each.

Hi @A MyBCTeam Member I chose silicone implants for my reconstruction and I’ve been mostly happy with the result. The truth is, nothing compares to the real thing, so we just look for the silver lining…for me, it’s no bra, no sagging breasts, and I can wear cute tops and sundresses…something I could never do before without some insane torturous bra to contain my DDD breasts! But you should also know they are very very firm, even a little uncomfortable sometimes. All in all, the exchange surgery is easy, the outcome looks good, and they feel ‘eh’.

I’m glad you ladies are seeking input! A Second opinion is also not a bad idea. I’ve heard 4 PS’s give differing pieces of info. I’ve learned that all of the options have risks. I started with implants. Before I was done with my fills I had an aggressive Local-Regional reoccurrence that went externally as a lesion
near the top of my implant then internally down around the implant and alloderm down to my mastectomy scar..or vise versa.that whole implant had to be removed and radiated. Eventually I took the other implant out. My outcome is flat because I wasn’t eligible for a DIEP. My only option was the trans flap where tissue is from your back. We all make our choices with the best we know how, and if you’re a believer, the rest is in God’s hands.
