Just had lumpectomy and sentinel node surgery a week ago Path not back yet. What is the purpose of compressing the breast?

Hi Julie192, I believe it helps prevent lymphedemia. Your doctor may have you wear it anywhere from 2-14 days depending on the type of surgery etc you had. Hope you are getting around okay. I know it was a little rough when I had mine back in 2015.

Stay strong and stay in touch, I have 1 1/2 weeks of Radiation under my belt with 4 weeks left to go. I thought like you that I was not going to make it through this. But the technicians and doctor was simply impressive and caring. Relay on your treatment team they have your best interest at heart and want to see you thrive, and so do I. please keep in touch want to know how you are getting along.

Thank you ladies for the replies. I found out one of the 2 sentinel node was positive and am still wearing the sports bra for now, as it does give me extra support and I am sure my older bras will cause too much stress on that breast. The lump that was taken out was just over a golf ball size so it will probably help with rounding out the breast. Getting ready for the onslaught of cures that will maybe kill me along the way. trying to stay positive

I had my surgery just about a month ago, it helped reduce the swelling in my arm. My breast doesn't have a big dent in it for the size of the tumor they removed, I am very surprised. Hope you keep healing and getting stronger.

Thanks for the reply. I had my surgery 8 days ago and have heard that some people are wearing it for 8 weeks. I have no problem wearing it forever if there is a reason. Super easy fix if you asked me. I just was thinking, as they took a chunk about the size of a golf ball if it might help your breast to retain some roundness and not have a big dent. Just wasn't sure. I will ask the doctor and maybe some other professionals.
