I had a bilateral mastectomy and chose not to have reconstruction . I have never regretted my decision because I didn’t want to deal with extra surgeries and the possible problems. As others have said, it is a very personal decision. I stay flat at home, but when I go out, I usually put on a bra with light prosthetics.

When I was diagnosed at age 62 in 2018, I decided to go the mastectomy no reconstruction route; the surgery went well, my lymph nodes and margins were clear, my incisions healed well, and the scars have faded. I don't regret the decision, it allowed me to skip radiation and any additional surgeries for reconstruction. It suited my personality- I just wanted to get healthy, and get on with my life with minimal disruption. So far, so good, I just pop in the prosthetic and roll (or not- lol!)

My suggestion is to carefully reconsider all the reasons you went with reconstruction and decide if it is still important to you. This is such a personal decision, that only you- deep in your gut- will know the right answer. Keeping you in prayers while you navigate all these feelings and decisions. Gentle hugs!

I can’t speak personally but my sister did a single mx with no reconstruction and she is just fine with it. She didn’t want more surgeries or complications like you have encountered. She is very small breasted so doesnt even wear a prostetic but that is an option if you feel self-conscious.
