I feel terrible on a lot of days following the end of chemo. This is just my 2nd week of not having a treatment. I have headaches, sick to my stomach, my joints are in pain most days. I was just wondering if anyone else had any reactions when done taking chemo.
It takes a while to get past the drugs in your system. Chemo is a cumulative situation. I bet you could tell as treatment progressed that it was harder to bounce back after each treatment. I was told that a good clue to when you will start to feel better is to look for the new hair growth. That's a sign that the cells that were being destroyed by the chemo (white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, hair, nails) are now able to push through. My hair started back after a couple of months. Hang in there, it gets better. Just keep making your healthy choices so your body has what it needs to flush all the drugs out and build healthy new cells. Hugs!
I agree with LauraAH and Virginia.
It took me a year to feel stronger. I’m an energetic 75 y/o but I only feel 80% back to my old self.
Be patience with yourself because your body went through a lot with all cancer treatments. Make sure you hydrate, eat healthy, exercise even just walking or climbing stairs and rest.
Sending hugs and prayers for your strength and recovery.
My OT told me it takes a year for every cell in your body to rejuvenate after treatment.
I think it took me about a month after my last chemo to feel better.
Give yourself some time, you have been through a lot!
Thank you for your kind words. I will be glad when it is over too. I just get worked up over having to go under anesthesia. Hopefully they get everything this time around. I don't like surprises. Hugs back!
I hate the idea of being out as well- it requires trust, and faith that everything will be ok. It is scary, being prepped for surgery is another one of those times when the diagnosis in "real" and in your face. But once it was over, I felt such relief, just to know the tumor was out and could no longer cause more trouble. I looked at it as taking out the general in the war- chemo etc., was clean-up of any hiding ground soldiers. Keeping you in prayers that your whole being, mind and spirit are confident going into this, that everything goes well, and that- as for most of us- the mastectomy is actually less painful than we had imagined it would be. Tight hugs!
