Hey everyone! I did 18 rounds of chemo and had a lumpectomy due to triple negative breast cancer. Im 44 and my period had stopped during chemo and hasnt come back. Is it forever gone? I havent had hot flashes or any symptoms of menopause. Wonder if my period will come back? Did this happen to anyone?

Hey Tammy. I too am being treated for TNBC at 49... I have 16 chemo treatments and have completed 15 thus far. Then a lumpectomy with hopefully a few lymph nodes and then 33 radiation treatments. My oncologist said that the chemo would put me in menopause. My periods have stopped and I get hot flashes all of the time. After 12 months of no period, you are then considered in menopause so you are on your way. Some of my hot flashes are also due to the chemo...I guess it's possible that your period may come back temporarily but I think after 18 chemo treatments it would solidify that your periods are gone for good.😊

How was your lumpectomy? When do you get the pathology results? Let us know how you are doing and feeling after surgery....

@A MyBCTeam Member: yes mine stopped with chemo (at 40) and never came back. The only way you can know with certainty that you're in full menopause is through bloodwork. I had ovarian ablation and then an oophorectomy so am in full menopause now.

Your period can come back but if it does, it will likely be lighter/weaker than it was.

I was very lucky and my cancer was caught very early. It’s been a year since surgery and I can’t rest my arm against my body where they removed 3 lymph nodes. Developed lymphedema and have to wear compression sleeve and glove 8-10 hours a day. Going to talk to a surgeon next month to see if I am eligible for surgery. There are 2 types of lymphatic surgery. Hopefully I am eligible for one. Hang in there

Thank you for answering! I too had 18 chemo treatments, I also just had the lumpectomy June 16th. It went well, I am healing quite nicely. I had 5 lymph nodes removed as well. My armpit is still very tender and hurts from time to time. I dont know how much radiation I’ll have yet. Im going in next week for them to put somethijg in my Port to fight off cancer
( forgot the name of it ). Lol. I dont know how many of those treatments I’ll get. I will get my results on July 5th. Im happy to hear that my period wont come back! Good news there. I’ll know for sure in March of next year. That will be a year that they’ve been gone. 😊 How are you doing with chemo? I had a rough time. Went to the hospital a few times and had like 10 blood transfusions thru my entire chemo time. My levels kept dropping. Good luck and hope to hear from
You ladies again! Nice to know I’m not alone. 💜
