Does Anyone Have Tumor Markers Or CtDNA Tests Done Routinely To Monitor For Recurrence Or Metastasis? The Lack Of Surveillance Bothers Me
I just had another long conversation with my oncologist about it. I’ve read and he’s told me that the guidelines state there is no increase in survival if routine imaging or tumor markers are done after being treated. One of my friends had DCIS 10 years ago and her oncologist did routine CA15-3 tests yearly. Her CA15-3 became elevated two years ago and after imaging it was found that she had metastasis to her lungs and she is now stage 4. The lesions were very small and she’s getting Herceptin… read more
Wow. SheilaE, can you tell me the name of the heart protection drug you were given? No one has mentioned anything to my friend about a way to protect her heart. She is going today for a second opinion at Cancer Treatment Center but I'm afraid it is too late for her. She is so weak and thin.
I have finished Taxotere Herceptin & Perjeta and due to start Herceptin & Perjeta on 6/30 with an Oral SERD study drug. I had heart failure due to what they thought was caused by the A/C at the time in 2013. I was only able to complete 7 rounds of Herceptin in 2013. I think that’s the reason for my reoccurrence and stage 4 diagnosis now. This time oncology cardiologist prescribed a Med to protect my heart throughout chemo and indefinitely as I go through with the Herceptin & Perjeta infusions. Not sure how long I’ll be on the H&P.
I'm two years out from my radiation. I moved 6 months ago and I have my semi annual appointment coming up with my new oncologist. I have the tumor marker blood test scheduled, but no mammo. I'm glad this question has come up so I'm prepared to ask for his view on this.
Hugs to all you lovely ladies.
sheilaE - Thank you for the name of the drug. I'm afraid it was too late for my friend. She passed on 7/1/22. It was heartbreaking. I now have another friend who is in treatment for a different type of breast cancer. My prayers continue for her and each of you as well. You are all rock stars in my book as you have the strength and perseverance of 100 legends of warriors! May GOD cover you each with HIS hedge of protection as you continue to walk this journey.
I would insist on being monitored. They told me I will be every 6 months for 5 years.
