Success With Post Radiation Implants
I'm recovering from a double mastectomy and anticipate starting radiation in a few weeks. My PS recommends doing DIEP for reconstruction but it makes me very uncomfortable. I understand that there are increased risks with getting implants after radiation. I'm looking for success stories and wonder what I can do to elevate my chances for success. My occupational therapist has made it a goal for my therapy. My team of doctors and surgeons know what I'm choosing

I felt the same regarding the DIEP , my plastic surgeon was very informative about the risk of the implants failing, and what I needed to do to ensure the best results. Best of luck to you
I think 6 months after radiation. I have appointments with my oncologist and new radiologist today. (New because my original is on maternity leave).
How long after radiation is your reconstruction surgery? Can they do the reconstruction/implants prior to radiation? I had delayed reconstruction with implants to allow the skin to heal because of prior radiation to the right breast. I also had physical therapy ( scar massage ) to promote healing. I am 6 months out from the placement of the implants and I am very happy with the results. I was also very concerned about the risk so I followed PS instructions to the letter.

I Have Biozorb Put In During My Lumpectomy. It's Been 2 Yrs And Still Have Pain. Was Wondering If Anyone Else Has This Problem?
