Last round of AC is Monday, and I’m mentally preparing.
Mary, yes, 12 rounds of weekly taxol.
After A/C, Taxol for me was a relative cake walk. I got minor nausea, some fatigue and continued hair loss. There is a risk for neuropathy. I iced hands and feet and took B Complex, had zero issues so far. The other major side effect was lowered blood counts. Had to take one round of Granix related to low WBC's.
Good luck to you. Each Weekly week of Taxol I got more neuropathy in my hands & feet. My oncologist said he didn't want to Disable me. So he cut me early off of Taxol. My last Taxol was in July 2010. I still have the bad neuropathy in my hands & feet. I drop things out of my hands without warning. Cold & Hot temps. Hurt my hands & feet more.
@A MyBCTeam Member: I was the opposite to Heather. I found Taxol waaaay easier than AC. She's right that Taxol is about the bone & joint pain but there's no nausea or stomach issues like with AC, and for me I find pain much easier to deal with than the crappy flu feeling. I found the best thing was heat - hot baths, heated blanket etc. As an added bonus the pre-meds for Taxol made me pleasantly drunk so I usually slept for the first hour/ 1.5 hours of treatment. You're gonna do great! 😃💖🌷🌟
I think for me, my 1st round of Taxol was so much worse than AC. I was not prepared for the excruciating bone pain that I had. I now take prescription Clariten and it helps immensely. I would recommend taking at least the over the counter starting with the 1st treatment. But after that 1st one, I feel generally ok. I go to work the next day (I didn't with the AC), and except for some occasional tiredness, I feel alright! Tomorrow is my 6th Taxol treatment, and I hope it keeps going well!
