Nine months after my lumpectomy and radiation I find my treated breast swells up during the day and seems to be worse on hot days and days I am at home and do not wear a bra. Luckily the swelling subsides some during the night. I went to see a lymphadema therapist yesterday who is trying to break up some hardened tissue with massage and low level laser. I am curious as to whether anyone else has experienced such swelling and if they had any luck with therapy. He is also referring me to… read more

Thanks for the replies. I am wearing the compression bra with chip pads or a compression camisole and trying to massage it myself in addition to the therapy he does every two weeks. Seems to be helping but hope that when it gets cooler here the swelling will be less. Does the zip up bra you use have a wide band underneath and velcro on the shoulders? The bra fitter suggested I try one of those but I am waiting to see if the ones I have work. Thanks again.

I have had the same issues. My physical therapist recommended massage exercises and two other sets of exercises along with using weights and bands.
I'm back to wearing a compression bra and sleeve when I fly and walk.

I also sleep with a pillow under the arm where I had the lymph nodes removed and surgery.

Hope this helps.

Lymphadema can occur anytime after lumpectomy and removal of lymph nodes. I have been told even years later. In my situation, I went to a physical therapist who taught me how to do the massage and exercises to do. Yes, it does make a difference. You will feel and see a difference.

I have also worn many bras, but the one that works best in the compression bra that opens in the front and zips up. It makes a world of difference.

Hope this helps!
