I had a double mastectomy December 2018. I now have so much fluid in my left breast that the radiologist who read my CT scan thought I had a breast implant. I haven’t had reconstruction and not sure if I will. The fluid is over 24cc and feels so tight. It looks as if my boob is growing back.
The surgeon is hesitant to drain because it will fill up again. They say if a drain is inserted that will be for 6 weeks and I had a hard time after surgery due to infections.
Is it a Seroma? I had developed one in my armpit 2 weeks post mastectomy and that baby was huge! Draining 60ccs. I had it drained once and decided not to again cause I didn't want to risk infection with multiple insertions. It finally went away 2 weeks ago, so it lasted roughly 5 weeks. But they say that sometimes they can take months to a year to finally resolve on their own. They initially told me to baby it, which made it worse. I found that keeping moving as regular helped the fluid to be reabsorbed quicker. I hope you find some relief, cause man they are uncomfortable.
Two months two weeks I have swelling where the drains were. I am hoping it will go away soon. I do not want to be cut again. This has been so hard. Bilateral Mastectomy and removal of nodes I Stay Praying for healing 🙏🏽♥️
They didn’t open me up to drain it. They used a huge needle and would aspiritate it with several tubes. If it is a small accumulation your body will absorb it naturally.
Well, believe it or not I had a huge seroma in my left breast 4 1/2 years after my bilateral mastectomy but the plastic surgeon didn’t wasn’t to drain because she was afraid to open me up for infection. Nine months later they had no choice, it had become a very large hematoma. So large that it could not be aspirated. There was so much blood it had to be removed surgically. It really freaked out the radiologist in the Cancer Center. And he sees everything. But the surgery went well.🌷
After I removed my implants and went flat I developed a huge seroma about 2 weeks after they pulled the drains. They drained it 3 separate times over 2 months with a huge needle. The first time there was 125 ccs, then 107 ccs and finally 75 ccs.
