For those who are Estrogen + , and taking an AI or a hormone blocker, has your neuropathy increased?
I started chemo 4 years ago. Very minimal neuropathy at that time. Now I have been on Letrozole about 4 years
I don’t have neuropathy pain, but moreso numbness in my fingers, toes, and legs. Also weakness in my knees
Recently, I have been experiencing burning in my lower legs.
Went to my primary and she says it’s all nerve related. We did bloodwork and thyroid, blood sugars, B12, and everything else ok.
As she suggested last year, ( which I chose not to do) she says an EMG would determine… read more
While I will continue to be mindful of issues/side effects, symptoms, etc. I have decided not to peruse further neurological evaluation beyond the EMG. My primary stands behind that decision. In the end , her question to me was “ you know that neuropathy isn’t curable, just treatable, what would you do with the results of a full neurological exam?”
Hmm, interesting, Zg. I’ve recently, at five years out, had very mild, fleeting bouts of what reminds me of taxol nerve pain. I’m in my fifth year of hormone therapy. I never assumed a connection, but have thought it is a little weird this far out.
Please keep us up to date with what you find out. That test sounds intriguing, in that it can nail down a cause.
And very glad to read the responses.
Hugs to you!
My sister in law’s Mom has had variable Oral and infused chemos for estrogen pisitive bone Mets with side effect of neuropathy - rather severe, but recently had positive improvement with physical therapy for it - some of you may find PT helpful?
Update: the EMG shows very minimal nerve damage. ( more severe in just one nerve, one side, which would more likely indicate injury/ trauma vs medication based).
I was a bit confused/worried by this wondering 1) is this neuropathy all in my head and 2) do I have something else underlying causing the occasional burning.
My primary explained that this was just an EMG , not a full neurological evaluation. A negative EMG doesn’t mean I don’t have neuropathy. The EMG would have shown if my symptoms were originating from my back, or other areas. As for other causes of the burning, we have diligently/ regularly checked my blood sugars, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. All of these are ok.
Take away: I still need to make good choices watching what I eat, moving my body/exercising, and taking care of my mental health.
Life after BC. I just need to remind myself to embrace the new normal.
Make sure it’s not a vascular problem .. had similar burn and ach and it turned out to be 90% blockage in my leg .. the Dr. Felt for a pulse in my foot and their was none .. had to have angioplasty to clear blockage and now my leg is fine ..
