hello everyone, I was recently diagnosed with Stage 1A multifocal invasive cancer with no lymphovascular invasion.

Estrogen receptor positive

Progestrone receptor positive

HER 2 negative

Oncotype score @ 20

In consultation with 2 different Oncologists, we have received 2 different treatment options. One suggested CFM @ 8 sessions with 2 week intervals. The other suggested TC @ 4 sessions with 3 week interval.

We are totally confused as to what we should do...

I also wish I had found out about this prior to starting chemo. You can rent the system which would have been cheaper than the $4000 wig I have on my head. I was a redhead and the hair follicles were damaged from chemo. I may never get my hair colour back. Had I rented this system I would have my hair colour as it protects the root from damage. Not sure where you’re having your chemo. In Canada they have the system at Sunnybrook, Princess Margaret, Mt. Sinai hospitals. Also in Quebec and Alberta although if you call their number or email them they will accommodate you! They’ll also tell you how likely you are to maintain what percentage of hair depending on the type of chemo you take. Even 40% is better than bold wearing a wig!

The closer the treatments are to each other the less time the cancer has to mutate. Studies show dose dense every 2 weeks is superior.

In 2016, I had 4 AC Treatments followed by 12 Taxol and cold capped for all sessions with dry ice and wonderful friends. I maintained about 60% of my hair with the majority being in the back and the side that i did not rest my head upon when i did not fell well. I continued to exercise and did not do the best job of protecting my delicate hair (pony tail holders for gym and running) I also had a large chunk of hair get caught in the velcro of my wet suit while diving resulting in a large knot of hair having to be cut out. I ended up wearing a hair piece over my hair for6 months while my hair healed. I received a gentle color to restore it to blonde in Oct (Chemo finished in May). I received gentle tape in hair extensions the day before Christmas to even out the spots that were shorter. I wore the extensions until May of 2017. I continued to take Biotin during treatment an after and my hair grew back thick and healthy. i had a Keratin treatment in the Spring of 2017. Preserving my hair gave me control over a situation that I felt out of control. Good luck to you and your decision!

Here’s an article from this year on the subject of dose dense (every 2 weeks). I’m ER positive, PR positive, HER2 negative. I chose dose dense myself. Not sure why they give us options. You’d think they’d go with the most proven effective treatment. Guess they want it to fit into your life style best.

I’d go with the every two weeks and get yourself some regular Claritin non-drowsy for the side effects. I took Neulastin which can cause bone and joint pain. The Claritin helps a huge amount!!!
