The way it has worked for me is: I see my Onc every 6 months (now moving to one year) unless I have a complaint. I see my surgeon only at annual mammo now too. Basically, there is nothing to do now except regular check ups.

My surgeon is in charge of mammo, any lumps etc... IF anything is found to be cancer, I am sent back to the oncologist. That is their roles as they have been defined to me.

Just an FYI Milo, testing cannot avoid a recurrence. What you are experiencing is normal concerns about having a recurrence. We all feel you! But if your treatment shows all is good, try to put your mind in that place and be happy. Time to put BC on the back burner if you can.

If you feel lumps, bumps or something comes up that is not normal then you want to get checked. Otherwise, you are now in the "cancer free" zone.

I have one more Herceptin/Perjeta infusion, and then I AM DONE with treatment (other than Letrozole for 5 years). Both my surgeon & my oncologist told me that there is no testing they do unless/until something suspicious is found. I personally think they should do an entire body-scan, like they did @ the very beginning of all this, once treatment is over, 'just to be sure.' Apparently, no one in the medical community seems to agree with me

I too am frustrated about no scans after chemo. I had bilat mastectomy and chemo for metaplastic TNBC and my onc says scans are not indicated unless I start having symptoms of some sort. But, I have since accepted it; whatever will be will be. Can't go around worrying about something that may never happen.

I'm seeing my surgeon, oncologist and radiation oncologist every 6 months. I also have mammograms every six months alternating both breasts and the cancer breast. I also do a transvaginal US once a year to make sure the uterus lining is not thickened because of tamoxifen. They have all told me Im doing this for 5 years. I was 44 at diagnosis, stage 1 IDC and Paget's.
