Had bilateral mastectomy with tissue expanders on 8/6/18. On 10/4/18 stitch opened and started draining. Had an emergency procedure to clean, cut and restitch. Doctor was very concerned stating over and over that he didn't like what he was seeing. Gave me two different antibiotics for 14 days. He said there was no infection but there was a possibility that he would have to remove the expanders and start over if I developed an infection.
Anyone else have this problem?
I had a similar problem. Got an infection after tubes were taken out and ended up in hospital. It worked and I still have expander. Started chemo 9/10/2018 and small section of stitch keeps healing then fills will fluid causing a blister type sore. No infection in it but keeps healing and filling with fluid. PS has lanced it twice. We have decided to just keep watching it and going on with chemo. I see PS every week and as long as there is no infection we are taking it one week at a time. He said he hasn't seen this before and doesn't know why it is happening. As long as there isn't infection I feel that I am taking a step backward if I have the expander remover.
We are guessing it may have something to do with the AC chemo I am having. Have had 2 sessions and this started after the first session.

After your mastectomy did you have drains? If not i would be asking my surgeon why. This helps to remove any drainage. If you dont have drains after surgery where is the drainage supposed. It will go the path of least resistance. When i had my bilateral mastectomy i woke up with drains which drained alot in the beginning. Once the drainage reduce to less than 10-20 cc in 48 hour period thr drains were removed.
