NERLYNX Percentage Of Recurrence Reduction

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

For anyone who has taken NERLYNX (following Herceptin and chemo) for early stage Her2 positive breast cancer, what has your oncologist told you as far as how much it reduces the future risk of recurrence? My doc said it was a very low percent, but then I see much higher percentages online and on the NERLYNX website. I'm going to discuss it again w/my onc, but I'm wondering what you girls have experienced. Thank you.

My dr said very very tiny inprovement. The nerlynx site does some funny math to get their percentage. They take the survival rate without 93% and divide it by the survival rate with 97% to get their 90% increased survival rate. My onc said it will be my decision. I think i will try it, but if it keeps me homebound with the runs, dint think ill continue.

I took it just shy of a month. I just couldn't stand the side effects. They told me in the beginning to give it 3 or 4 months for the symptoms to subside, just couldn't do it.

Thank you. My doc only said about 3-4% if I remember correctly. I'm going to have the conversation again with him and have him explain why the differences in percentage. Like you, I don't want to be dizzy and fatigued, etc. for a small percentage but we shall see. Thanks again

I too am on Tamoxifen and will probably be changed to Arimidex after 2 years because of being post menopausal by then. I tried Nerlynx about a month after my last Herceptin and had to make a decision on whether to try to stay on or not. My doc said that there was only a 2% reduction by taking the Nerlynx for a year. Personally, this was not an option because Nerlynx actually made be more nauseous, dizzy, fatigued and made me miss more work than my actual TCH+P treatments and radiation. In my case it was awful, definitely not worth not being able to live my life for that small reduction of risk. Just my personal experience. I was told that the website lists a 50% actual reduction which is different that an individual reduction rate. It is Expensive! I'd go with your doctors advice over the Nerlynx site.
