Pain is mostly in hands and legs. Pain so bad at times, I can't walk. I thought it might be the result of the Arimidex, but the discomfort started before taking Arimidex and seems to be getting worse. I saw a rheumatologist, and he ruled out any arthritis.
Thanks for your concern @A MyBCTeam Member. I am enjoying the holidays because life keeps going forward, and that's fine with me. My oncologist suggested I discontinue the Arimidex for two weeks and see what happens with the pain. It's the only way to see if the medication is causing my discomfort. Fortunately, if it is the Arimidex, the onc can prescribe a different medication. If it's not the Arimidex, I'm back to the mystery of what's causing the pain. Nevertheless, I wish you a wonderful holiday season and I will surely let everyone know how this ends out.
Hi @A MyBCTeam Member. I called my oncologist again about this today because I was almost in tears that I couldn't walk at work today without pain. The doctor has decided that for the next two weeks I am going to discontinue the Arimidex to see if the pain goes away. If it does, then he will switch my medication. I too am upset about having to take these meds for ten years, but I am also fearful of reoccurrence, so I am torn. I can't go on with this type of pain for that amount of time. I am sorry to hear that your pain continues even though you switched meds. I'm not sure if it is the Arimidex that's causing the discomfort or just the after effects of chemo. I am seriously beginning to think that all the doctors I am seeing don't even know for sure what the problem might be. I try not to be negative, but I need someone to confirm that my discomfort is real, show knowledge of what is wrong, and be able to help me to relieve even some of the pain.
I have the same issue. Was on Arimidex so they had me stop for a few weeks for symptoms to go away before starting Femara. Well, symptoms NEVER went away. On Femara now. My knees, feet, hips and all the joints in my hands hurt terribly. I think it's chemo related. And now I just found out that the femara is making my cholesterol go up and possibly worsening my osteopenia! Gahhhh! Just the idea that I may need to be on this for the next 10 years makes me want to cry. I'm not sure it's worth it. Husband wants me to stay on it but I don't know anymore.
@A MyBCTeam Member I am sure my doctors think I am a hyperchondriac. Every complaint I have they tell me that I have no reason for concern. When I had bone scans and CT scans last summer they showed tons of degenerative diaease. No one seems to be concerned . I even asked my PCP whether I needed to do any extra tests for other cancers and he just said a colonoscopy which I had 6 months ago. I guess I want my doctors to be as diligent as my health as I am. I guess that is asking a lot.
