Hysterectomy??

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question šŸ’
Orlando, FL

My uterine lining is increasing due to tamoxofien & my Gyn. Has suggested a hysterectomy ( laparoscopic and vaginally hopefully)
Has anyone else chosen to do this so they will no longer have worri s about these issues ?
Thanks !!šŸŽ€

It was the best thing I could have done! One thing not to worry about. It was a breeze too!

Look into physical effects. I understand there is a danger of prolapse bladder that will then need surgical repair. This to me is freightening but better than cancer and its anxiety. Since I am no longer taking tomoxifen and in post menapause I take a different regimen with different side effects. The uterine cancer risk is much lower and the medicine Letrozole aka Femara does not cause the uterine changes you see with tamoxifen. There are other ways to go through medical menapause. Mine started at 36 the chemo started it right away. It wasn't till later that blood test revealed post menapause at 44. Off tamoxifen I went. They encouraged me before starting to have the overies removed to avoid the uterine changes the medication causes. Then they would have started me on what I am currently taking. Lots to research on this journey. You'll find the right thing for you, that makes you feel strong and empowered. Let us know how everything turns out.

Tamoxifen also has a 5% chance of cause uterine cancer. I had other female issues (uterine fibroids) and decided to have uterus and both ovaries removed. I stopped the anti hormonal medication at 4.5 years love that I don't have power surges (hot flashes) anymore.

Good question. I would ask. They may want to do a hormone check to be sure the levels are right. I took it for 7 years. I was started on it because I was not close to menapause at diagnosis. It wasn't to torturous, hated hot flashes and night sweats. I still get them though. Still hate it. I didn't have uterine lining changes until 6 yrs out. I had little issue with it my entire menstration years. Of course every body is different when it comes to how medication effects it. It is a good question to help explore options.

If you are thinking your best bet is hysterectomy as apposed to anything else please see the link to help you talk to your doctor about what type of hysterectomy they will be doing.

My motto is seek out options and be informed to make the best choices that fit me. To meet that ultimate goal of lowering cancer risk as much as possible.

I hope the biopsy goes well with positive results. Wishing you the best of luck. I have heard great success stories of women who have had hysterectomy to reduce the risk of cancer.
