At what point do you consider yourself cancer free? After you finish treatment? After a year? After you're done taking any & all cancer related medication (tamoxifen or aromataste inhibitors)?

The 5 year rule doesnt apply to er + bc. It can come back at any.time, less likely before 5 years. However that doesnt mean it will come back. I just realized that TODAY is my 5 year NED date, the date i had my lumpectomy and the cancer was removed. Then i had a mastectomy since mt margins weren't clear but no more cancer was found.

My oncologist told me I was NED after 2 years but I recently had a scare on my unaffected breast so I'm wondering if there is such a thing as cancer free???

I'm with Drummerswife - after my mastectomy and chemo, I consider myself in remission as opposed to cured. I'm hoping the remission lasts longer than I do!!

I consider myself IN REMISSSION the date I had my negative PET scan - after bilat mastectomy and chemo. I don't use cancer free, I say that I am in remission as of that date.
