Lupron injections are not suppressing my ovaries enough, so I'm technically not in menopause. My oncologist wants me to stop the AI (since I'm not in menopause) and to start taking Tamoxifen, while still receiving the lupron injections. Thoughts? Or similar situations?

Exact same issue here, the blood tests showed my estrogen levels were increasing and Lupron did not work for me. I opted to have my ovaries removed, got off tamoxifen and started Arimidex.

I'm 43 and just started [[treatment:Tamoxifen:540f562a[[phone:8608758280000445]] 2:]] weeks ago. I'm getting a Trelstar injection once a month. So far my only side affect is mild hot flashes. Praying that's the worst I see.

@A MyBCTeam Member I have been taking Tamoxifen for 2 years in July 2016. It is not my favorite medecine and looking forward stopping taking it in 8 years. But it is a proven medecine and you can get it at a low price. There are newer pills that are more expensive. Tamoxifen scares me due to its long list of side effects. I am 55 so I was thrown into menopause when I started chemo May 2013. I can't recall the names of the three chemotherapy drugs I took. (Chemobrain XR) I do have them written in my pathology report. Now I do have pain in my hips and bones. The doc is keeping an eye on it. Also I feel different. And it has messed with my sleep cycle. Within a week I was having trouble sleeping or oversleep. I will be happy to be on something else but it has a great rate in terms of non-occurences so please trust your doctor so far it is the drug for us that are not able to take any forms of hormones. Thus far the percentage rate of survival for women that have breast cancer is really good. I know that my doc said that only 20% of 1000 women who had chemo, radiation, and surgeries would get a reoccurrence. In my case I have other issues that have gotten worse since I started chemo. My polyvestibular neuropathy is so much worse than prior to my cancer treatments. I also suffer from Fibromyalagia and I am a Type 1 diabetic and when in pain my numbers go out of wack!!! I have lesions on my brain but it was felt that we would keep an eye on it. So I have much on my mind but I have learned to be sweet to the nurses. They will make sure you get top notch medical care. I find the aftercare..after all the treatments are done lack in supervision and so many women are being told they are cancer free very early in the treatment process. That is not for women's benefits it's for the percentages appear better.

Love your picture! Those were my thoughts exactly!! I'm on AI + Lupron injections quarterly. Diagnosed at 45 in 2012. Chemo put in menopause for 2 years - FSH tests confirmed in menopause range. Started AI in April 2013 - all of a sudden in June 2014 started bleeding - after a huge scare and cervical biopsy, FSH was retested and out of menopause range and bleeding was deemed to be a period. My onco wanted me to stay on AI and added Lupron shots. Weight gain and achiness are problems for me.
