I am scheduled to have my ovaries removed on April 4th. Currenly, I am on Tamoxifen. I know I will be switched to something else pist-surgery. When I asked the nurse about when to start a new prescription, she said I woukd get that the next time I see the Oncologist, but that's not until April 29th. So by the time I get the prescription filled, I could be on Tamoxifen for a month after having the ovaries removed. I had a complete hysterectomy last June and have been on tamoxifen the whole time ( started 4 years ago when diagnosed). Remember that fat cells also carry estrogen
Ever since I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and it came back I am BRAC2 positive along with triple positive, all I've heard from Breast Surgeon, Gyno and Oncologist is "I highly recommend you get the overies out." I'm not having anymore children. Apparently it's an easy surgery. I am combining it with my exchange surgery.
Yes-the symptoms were classic tamoxifen side effects. (Sorry for the delay in reply- another surgery, another job loss thanks to my medical issues) back on my feet finally.
I had a total hysterectomy/ooph two weeks ago after 5 yrs on tamoxifen. My onc said to continue with the tamoxifen post hysterectomy for another 5 yrs. My gyn said there was no reason to not take it -- it can't do any more damage and only benefit. Haven't started yet, not sure how I feel about it.
