Hi I've just had exchange surgery done, expanders for anatomical implants 4 days ago. I was wondering: When and how nipple is reconstructed? How long after placement of implants one should wait to have nipples reconstructed? How do they do it? Is it painful? Any extra scars? has nipple flattened with time? Are you happy with the result? Thanks.
Hi, to be truthful I haven't got that far yet, am seeing my consultant on 9 th Feb after my last appointment with him in September he said we can discuss what I want regarding my nipple, I really don't want anymore ops so not sure what I will choose however I do hope you make the right decision for you xxxxx
My doctor went in, made a small incision in each breast, and sort of gathered up the tissue to form nipples. I still don't have any feeling in my breasts, so it was not painful at all. I had my exchange in June, and nipples done in October. I needed to wear "guards" on them for about 4 weeks afterward so they wouldn't immediately flatten. They have, thankfully, flattened a bit since surgery. Without a bra they definitely stick out. I am pleased with the results thus far, and will have 3D tattoos done in another week in an effort to make things look as realistic as possible. Good luck!
I have had a very new type of surgery where the original nipples were kept in the lab and transplanted after 8 months, however working with breast cancer patients over the last 4 years I have seen the most awesome breast tattoo's done. It would be best to find a reputable place as what @A MyBCTeam Member has mentioned above, and only trust a person that has done tattoo's on top of prosthesis

Make sure you're happy with symmetry and placement of everything else. My first plastic surgeon did my nipple reconstruction at the same time she lifted the other side. Then she had to trade out the implant for a different size on the mastectomy side. It pushed the nipple way too high. I ended up having to start all over and had a lap flap to correct it. Both nipple reconstructions were fairly painless. They do flatten somewhat. If I don't have a bra on, I have one headlight. I have no regrets in having the the nipple reconstruction. Fortunately I didn't have the tattoo after the first one. That was a pice of cake too. I had it done in my doctors office.
