I had one last year. Just make sure you know if you need radiation. I wouldn't recommend having it done before radiation. I would wait until afterwards. You don't want to radiate the flap.

I had DIEP reconstruction and am 110% happy with the results!

I had my ld reconstruction in August 2014 being honest it was tough, not sore but v v uncomfortable as pain was managed well with meds, I have a large scar on my back under my arm pit, and mastectomy scar, I'm still off work hoping to return in November as I also had chemo, I also had to have dogs ear removal at the end of my scar on my back as it was sticking out like a corner of a seem but it was fine sore for a small bit, you'll be giving physio and breathing excercises to do which can be quite touch but eases with time, I'm also v pleased with my final results good luck xxx

I have had Latissimus Flap in 1998 and Trans Flap surgery in 1994. Actually for both surgeries the reconstruction was done at the same time as the mastectomies. But I hesitate to give any advice as I am sure so much has changed in 17 years. I can tell you in all these years I have never had any problems as a result of the surgery. Also I had to have a saline implant. All the best to you in your decision making.
