I found out that I have bone mets in my spine and hip and my oncologist gave me a shot of Xgeva on Aug 10th to help strengthen my bones. Since then I have had bad lower back pain and pain in my hip and groin along with exhaustion on and off. I don't know whether this is from the bone mets themselves or if the shot is causing more pain and exhaustion. Anyone else go through this and what do you feel caused the side effects? Also what pain meds are you taking to help with the pain? Thanks
Hi Roseanndt,
Sorry for the delay, hope all is going well for you!! Regarding the Xgeva, I am fortunate to say no side effects. Not sure where I stand at this point regarding my bone mets.
I am happy to say my second scan which I had on Monday, shows no additional tumors, existing ones are shrinking and I did not light up the board like a Christmas tree this time around!!
Little steps but so happy the drugs my doc has me on seem to be working.. Still very new to all this and still trying to digest it and understand.
I hope you have a nice weekend
What is so unfair is you can get the breast cancer again and again,
Thank you for answering. I am wondering, did you get your PET scan because of back & hip pain?
I had the same pain when I started Xgeva, but it eventually will get better and better as you continue to get more injections. I've been on it for 2 1/2 years and I've had clean scans for the bone mets for just over 2 years.
I cannot walk very far, I know it is due to everything , I just do the best I can.
