just got back from my radiologist, will be starting radiation in a couple of weeks, my question is, she told me to use no cream at all only corn starch and to wash with dove sensitive soap, has anyone heard of this, they do not use creams because if you don't get it all off it will sizzle on skin, i will only have 18 sessions, and she said this what they use, and they like to see the corn starch on your skin then they will see it.

I used Aquaphor, and 100% Aloe. Worked GREAT !! Healed very fast, and no scarring. Only thing I was told was not to apply 3-hrs before treatment. Maybe mention it, to your oncologist.

My radiologist said don't use any lotion that is oily because it will make the skin burn. If I did use aloe vera not to do it right before radiation. She did give me a prescription cream I can't remember the name but it was thick kind of like desitin.

This blog is 2 years old, the machines are different now. And they now recommend certain creams.. You do need to use a moisturizer it is very important, speak to aother onc, this is strange they would say that. lotion with No perfumes, no alcohol, no petroleum based, no parafin, etc. I wanted to use the natural oils but was told No. All will agree to Aloe Vera Jell in the organic pure form no alcohol. I found on the MacMillan site a prescription for R1 and R2 gel and cream sachets, these work great! You canNot be allergic to Milk, was the only thing this prescription warned, as there is milk protein in the base., I am coming to the end of my 4 weeks of radiation, and have great soft supple skin with no effects. The R1 gel cools the entire area then you put the R2 lotion on. I did this before and afte the radiation treatment Always.. Never a problem. My last day of radiation is Monday!!

I used aloe vera after each session and did not burn at all. My radiologist could not believe how good my skin looked. I was given a prescription for cream, but I did not get it filled.

there is a product called REGENECARE. It comes as a spray, a gel and a burn pad that you can lay across your skin to numb it. It's 2% lidocaine. And you do have to get it from a pharmacy, but in Texas it's not a prescription. Do not use oil based products, they really will increase the burning effect.
