Anyone here have experience with the: T = Tratuzamab (Herceptin), C= Carboplatin, H = Doxatacel (Taxotere) and P = Pertuzamab with a Neulasta injection treatment? My consult to go over scheduling, possible side effects, etc. is tomorrow but I'd like to hear from the ladies who are in treatment or finished. What were your side effects? My first infusion is April 6 so I'm a little anxious. Thanks.

I just finished TCH+P on March 9th, it definitely wasn't as bad as I had imagined, I guess I just didn't know what to expect at all. First few days after the treatment I was fine just felt weird, I think because I knew I had the drugs in my system. Sleep was hard in the first few days because of the steroids, once that wore off I'd be more tired. I took a stool softner the first 5 days after treatment, first round I didn't do that and I was up one night with the worse stomach pains of my life. Then my stomach would reverse and I'd have to take immodium for usually a day or two until that calmed down. I took Zyrtec to help offset the Nuelasta shot pains, during the first few treatments I felt like I got hit with a truck after that shot but towards the end I didn't notice it as much. My hair started really falling out after my second treatment, I had already gotten it cut short but then just buzzed it and it was easier seeing the little buzzed hairs in the shower or on my pillowcase. The only other side effect, and probably the worst for me was the loss of taste buds, I had the metallic taste a bit the first few rounds, but I noticed about a week into each treatment I couldn't really taste much. I did not however lose any weight because I just kept eating thinking food would taste better if I ate more of it. I recommend staying away from your favorite foods, you will gain aversions to certain things at certain times, especially if you overeat(I can't look at macaroni and cheese anymore). The taste bud thing was definitely cumulative, the last round I really couldn't taste much of anything and it was like a switch flipped from one night to the next morning. Starting to get better now but will probably wait to eat the food I have been craving for a bit longer.
What anti-nausea meds are they giving you? As for Emend through your IV or port...that was literally a life saver for me. I took it orally the first round and had to take other anti-nausea meds a few days after treatment. Once they switched me to the IV version I didn't need to take anything else. It also was covered through insurance through IV otherwise if I get it as an Rx my co-pay was $120 for it. Anyway, sorry for the novel but I wanted to give you all the information I wish I had at the beginning(hadn't found this site then). Please let me know if you have any questions, I'll add you to my team. Best of luck, you can do it!

Is this your first treatment? Nausea was definitely the worst after the first treatment, hope you feel better! You can take Compazine and Zofran at the same time...I would ask the Dr about it...

Hi ladies, my first chemo session went well. I'm on TCH+P protocol so I got a drip of Benadryl first, then one drug, then a drip and push of anti nausea meds, then drug two, then hooked up to the blood pressure cuff for drug three to make sure bp and pulse stayed normal and then last drug of the day. I was there from 8:15am to 4:45pm. Last night I had is insomnia from the steroid pre meds I had to take two doses of on Sunday and one dose before my session yesterday. I go back for that Neulasta shot today and I took a Zyrtec last night to be ready for that. Doc did call with post chemo session labs this morning and said my potassium was a little low (2.5 is the normal and mine was 2.4), so I'm off to the grocery store to by potassium rich foods (bananas, oranges, squash, canteloupe, etc.) My next chemo session/Neulasta injection after today is Apr 27-28.

I'm with Erin - I finished TCH+P and I'm on my 3rd (of 18) round of just Herceptin. I ended up in the hospital with pneumonia after the first round of TCH+P because my white blood cells went down to 0.01 UGH! I did the Neulasta shots and stayed healthy for the last 5 rounds and I work with special needs preschoolers as a speech therapist - so I get face to face contact with germs daily. Definitely needed the Zyrtec (generic) to keep the bone pain away. One night I thought I took it and was up all night in pain - but found the little white pill in the bed the next morning. I guess I was so tired I missed my mouth! LOL The nausea was bad and took my meds regularly. I threw up 0-3 times per round. I could eat hardly anything. Lots of people complain of a metallic taste but mine was more like charcoal - like everything was burned to a crisp on the grill. I lived on yogurt and home made shakes (my MIL bought me a Vitamix and it saved me!). I still lost about 20 lbs between surgery and chemo - but I really needed to anyway. I was able to work through the chemo with taking 1-3 days off after. I had chemo on Friday and then took off Monday for round 2 and 3. Monday and Tuesday for round 4&5 and M/T/W for round 6. But then again working with the preschoolers is a pretty physically demanding job so depending on your job it could be different. I could super smell everything (like when I was pregnant and nauseous all the time too) so I had to stay away from diapers LOL. I also felt good on Saturday after chemo but slept all day Sunday/Monday.
This is a great place to find answers to your questions! Ask away!

Forgot to add that when I had a Slurpee during the TC part of chemo my taste buds didn't go haywire. It has to be cold enough to give you a brain freeze but it worked!
