The stage from my biopsy was not accurate. It took MRI of both breasts, initial surgery for lumpectomy, and my breast surgeon not liking the appearance of the breast tissue. Initially with the biopsy it was determined I was Stage 1; however after the bilateral mastectomy and immediate reconstruction it changed to Stage 2a. The MRI showed an abnormality in the lower half of my breast that I had the tumor in. It was pre-cancerous.
