Does anybody have any tips about how to fight mouth sores from chemo? Mine is on the side of my tongue and I have had it for about two weeks now. It really hurts and the magic mouthwash does not seem to cure it. The numbing mouthwash only helps for a few minutes and the bottle says not to use it more than 4 times a day. I really hate this. Talking is hard and I answer phones at work and also, the constant pain is very draining on my emotions.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Do oil pulling with organic, unrefined coconut oil. Place a tablespoon of oil in your mouth and let it melt. Swish gently. Start out with five minutes and work up to 20 minutes. Reading, watching TV or on the computer will make the time go faster. Spit oil in trash can, not sink as it will eventually clog your pipes. It worked great for me. Hope you heal soon.

I read somewhere that sucking on ice chips while receiving chemo (during the infusion) helps to block the blood flow to the mouth, keeping the chemo at bay in this area. I did it every time I received Adriamyacin and Cytoxin and I never got mouth sores. This could work for you too??? I also heard baby teething gel could help with the pain. This I have not tried. Prayers to you for the ease of this discomfort. ♥

Ask your doctor for a prescription for dental paste. it is thick and tastes nasty, but heals the sores quickly.

I also used baking soda and warm water. My mouth would be in pain for about five days and I would gargle and rinse with this concoction at least four or five times a day. I successfully prevented the sores.
