I had a pulmonary embolism three weeks after my bilateral mastectomy. The hematologist believes it was directly caused by the cancer.
I'm on as long as I'm on Coumadin.
I had a surface clot in my left arm (same side as port) but I have a history of leg clots pre-cancer and Factor 5 Leyden, which is a clotting disorder. I did blood thinners for 4 months this time.
Yes! Best wishes!
I also developed a blood clot. I had a port put in so I could receive my chemo. I have stage 3 - grade 3 - Her2 Positive breast cancer. I lost over 40 pounds from the chemo treatments. My port moved further down in my heart as a result of the weight loss. The tip of the port rubbed against the wall of the right atrium, causing a blood clot. I have been on Coumedan since November. What a pain trying to keep the drug at a therapeutic level.I also had a double mastectomy. It is bad enough dealing with the cancer but now we have to deal with the issue of blood clots. Praying our clots are gone soon :)
When I was going through chemo, I had strange pain that I ended up going to the ER for. They found a couple of PE's and I was on blood thinners for 6 months. I was told that PE's are often caused by cancer...just another fun thing to deal with, right?!? Just be aware of the symptoms (shortness of breath, pain, etc) and you'll be good. It is a scary thing, though.
