I will be starting tamoxifen in about six weeks after my radiation therapy and the side effects are worrisome. Thinning hair? Weight gain? Depression? I'm really nervous!
Just seeking out others experiences
Thanks

Almost one month on it and I have lost weight. I think its partially my diet change for healthier eating but I also have found many things just not appeaking to me. I dont know if its the Tamoxifen or not. I have only experience minor hot flashes, maybe 3 a day and NOTHING like when I had chemo. Those were terrible. Everyone is different and hopefully you wont have any SE :)

Whether you are taking tamoxicen or any other med, I recommend you read the info on side effects your pharmacist provides, or look it up on Drugs.com. your physician cannot possibly remember the hundreds of potential side effects for thousands of prescription meds. Make sure the doc is monitoring for all possible adverse effects. When I took tamoxifen for 3 months, it drove my triglycerides from normal range to 4,000. No one was checking to see it rising. I ended up with a triple cardiac bypass, days away from an MI. And the doc told me it could not possibly have been caused by tamoxifeN. Cardiologist disagrees and so do I. So if you learn nothing else from this experience, advocate for yourself --and learn everything you can about the treatment and meds. Or if you tend to be meek, bring along someone outspoken!

Been on it one year, no obvious side effects here, I have lost weight due to diet and exercise.

I have been on tamoxifen for fourteen months. My side effects are weight gain, legs cramps, hot flashes, joint pain. My oncologists recognizes all are side effects of tamoxifen. For weight, I am working with a nutritionist, for leg cramps I eat a banana a day or take oral potassium, for hot flashes, I passed on the prescription and opted for the magnesium oxide supplements. I have seen an improvement in all. The joint pain was managed with Mobic, but I decided to eliminate that too. I have gotten to where I hate taking a pill if I really don't have to.

I'm on my fifth day of radiation. My treatment time is only three minutes. I've had only two days that made me feel emotional. Yesterday when I met someone who wasn't as lucky as I am and my first day of course.

I want to zip through this with no emotion and a "just get it done" attitude but I'm learning that I may not be able to and that it's not necessarily a bad thing.
